Zachary High School Wrestling Policies

Grades

A player cannot have more than TWO F’s and he cannot have less than a 1.5 GPA on his report card.  If he does he will not be allowed remain on the team. In other words, MAKE GREAT GRADES. Freshmen have to follow this rule for each six weeks progress report also

Attendance

A player must attend at least half the minutes of a school day to be eligible to participate in a practice or a meet that day.

Checking Out

If a player checks out, he must let Coach Moreau know before he leaves for the day.

Practice

An unexcused absence from practice will result in the player not being allowed to dress out and participate in the meet proceeding that missed practice. Two unexcused absences could be grounds for dismissal from the team.

Excused absences from practice will be granted for illness, attendance of other school functions, death in the family, doctor, etc.  SKIPPING PRACTICE TO CATCH UP ON HOMEWORK OR TO DO PROJECTS THAT ARE DUE THE NEXT DAY IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.  Coaches will require documentation to grant an excuse and in some situations require prior knowledge of the excused absence. Please inform Coach Moreau before the missed practice or meet.

Suspensions

Any player receiving a five-day suspension will be dismissed from the team.  Suspensions lasting fewer than five days will result in the player not dressing out for one meet.  Being in the Time Out Room for a period, a day, or days due to discipline reasons are also grounds for disciplinary action by the wrestling team.

Transportation

Transportation is the responsibility of the parent or guardian, except where the team may take a bus to and from an away meet.  Players must be picked up promptly at the end of practices.  Players who are picked up late twice will not be allowed to dress out for the next game and a conference will be held with the parent to determine whether or not the player will be dismissed from the team. Please notify the coaches ahead of time if there are any problems with transportation.

Dress

T-shirts of school colors (red, Columbia, Carolina, or light blue, blue, white, pewter (Tampa Bay Gray-Green), or gray), athletic shorts of school colors (red, light blue, blue, white, gray, or black), white socks, and wrestling shoes.  While school colors for sweats would be nice, it might not be feasible for some therefore school colors will not be required for sweats.  NO JEWELERY MAY BE WORN DURING PRACTICES OR MEETS. BOXER SHORTS SHOULD NEVER BE WORN AS THE ONLY MALE SUPPORT.  Hair length should confirm to RULE 4-2-1 of the Rule Book.

Wrestling is the fairest sport to compete in.  Basically the wrestlers who beat the other wrestlers are the first string.  The only thing that would break this unwritten rule is the breaking of the above rules.

*Please note that all school rules apply and inappropriate behavior will be grounds for dismissal from the team.  All decisions are subject to the coach’s discretion.
