Zachary High School Wrestling Policies
Grades
A player cannot have more than TWO F’s and he cannot have less than a 1.5 GPA on his report card. AT ZACHARY, we expect a lot more than this. We expect no D’s or F’s. Making D’s or F’s is an easy way not to be able to wrestle.
A player must attend at least half the minutes of a school day to be eligible to participate in a practice or a meet that day.
Checking Out
If a player checks out, he must let Coach Moreau know before he leaves for the day, or it will be counted as an unexcused practice.
An unexcused absence from practice will result in the player not being allowed to dress out and participate in the meet proceeding that missed practice. Three unexcused absences will be grounds for dismissal from the team. Excused absences from practice will be granted for illness, attendance of other school functions, death in the family, doctor, etc. SKIPPING PRACTICE TO CATCH UP ON HOMEWORK OR TO DO PROJECTS THAT ARE DUE THE NEXT DAY IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Coaches require documentation to grant an excuse, in other words inform Coach Moreau before the missed practice or meet. This includes after school tutoring or making up test. Wrestling is a TIMED sport, so it is important we practice this. ALWAYS BE EARLY!
Transportation is the responsibility of the parent or guardian, except where the team may take a bus to and from an away meet. Players must be picked up promptly at the end of practices. Players who are picked up late twice will not be allowed to dress out for the next meet and a conference will be held with the parent to determine whether or not the player will be dismissed from the team. Please notify the coaches ahead of time if there are any problems with transportation.
T-shirts of school colors (red, blue, white, or gray), athletic shorts of school colors (red, blue, white, gray, or black), white socks, and wrestling shoes. While school colors for sweats would be nice, it might not be feasible for some therefore school colors will not be required for sweats. NO JEWELERY MAY BE WORN DURING PRACTICES OR MEETS. BOXER SHORTS SHOULD NEVER BE WORN AS THE ONLY MALE SUPPORT. Hair length should confirm to RULE 4-2-1 of the Rule Book or the wrestler will not be allowed to wrestle. CREW SOCKS ARE REQUIRED TO WORN ON THE OUTSIDE OF WRESTLING TIGHTS FOR MEETS ONLY!
Wrestling is the fairest sport to compete in. Basically the wrestlers who beat the other wrestlers are the first string. The only thing that would break this unwritten rule is the breaking of the above rules.
*Please note that all school rules apply and inappropriate behavior will be grounds for dismissal from the team. All decisions are subject to the coach’s discretion.
