than last year in this year’s state championships!

The wrestling team would like to thank everyone who supported them this season especially all the teachers who helped the team through their volunteer hours, personal prayers and words of encouragement.

BRONCOS COMPETE Well at the State Championships

The Broncos placed 16th out of 28 teams and scored 53 points. That is 3 places and 15 points better than last year’s team. While no one placed this year, we did have 7 wrestlers score points for the team: Travis Hale scored 3 points, Tray Ross scored 5 points, Joe Elbert scored 6 points, Kenyon Martin scored 8 points, Wes Brady scored 9 points, and Chris Hart and Brandon Cosse both scored 10 points for the Broncos!

2017 JV City Runner Ups

City Championships 2017

BRONCOS KICK Their Way Back into the Top Six Teams at the 48th Annual Greater Baton Rouge City Championships

Broncos Place 6th in the 48th Annual Greater Baton Rouge City Championships held at Catholic High School. Last year the Broncos fell back into 7th place with 90 points. A key point to note about last year’s tournament vs this year’s tournament is the wrestling for places. Last the tournament was wrestled to 6 places. This year was only wrestled to four places. Four places leaves out the opportunities the 5th and 6th places have. Bottom line the Broncos scored 90 points with 10 wrestlers placing 7 out of the 10 wrestlers with four of those placers coming in at 6th place. This year the BRONCOS scored 88 points placing 3 wrestlers in the top 4. Senior first year wrestler TRAY ROSS placed 4th in the 182 lb. weight class! Sophomore first year wrestler CALEB JACKSON placed 4th in the 285 lb. weight class! Sophomore second year wrestler WES BRADY won the City Championship in the 220 lb. weight class! If this tournament would have placed six places like the tournaments has been wrestled for the 5 years the Broncos would have placed another 4 wrestlers placing as many wrestlers as did last year. A big shout out has to go out Senior BRANDON COSSE for upsetting Number TWO seed in the second of the tournament at 154 lbs. JACOB GRICE, BRANDON COSSE, TRAVIS HALE, and KENYON MARTIN all were within ONE match of placing! Way to wrestle for the team! GOOD JOB BRONCOS! Next Week the Broncos will be competing at the 2017 Greater Baton Rouge JV City Championships at East Ascension High School! GEAUX BRONCOS

Congratulations to the Broncos

Congratulations to the Broncos Wrestling Team on their 57-24 win over Grace King of New Orleans.

We would like to wish the wrestling team good luck this weekend as they wrestle in the 44th Annual LA Classic at Baton Rouge Community College starting today at 3:00 and continuing Saturday.

BIG HORSE Another Huge Success

The Zachary Broncos Wrestling Team once again hosted an outstanding one day wrestling tournament on Saturday, December 17. The Big Horse Tournament drew 23 teams from accross the state and from the city of Houston, TX. Parkway High School out of Bossier City won the tournament and Live Oak High School was the runner-up. Jordan Campbell from East Ascension High won the award for the champion wrestler with the most pins in the least amount of time.

The Broncos would like to thank all the teams for coming to their tournament to participate especially Houston Strake Jesuit College Prep out of Houston, Texas. This marked the firtst time Zachary’s Big Horse hosted an out of state team in their tournament. The Broncos would like thank the many volunteers especially Team Mom and Dad Nita and Kenyon Martin for spear heading all the volunteer help! We would also like to thank our sponsors: Pierce & Shows Attorneys & Counselors, Premier Produce of Zachary, Flower Foods, and Winn Dixie.

The Broncos also competed well themselves. Chris Hart was fourth in the 195 lb. weight class, D’Marcus Hills tied for 3rd in the 170 lb. weight class, and Wes Brady placed runner-up in the 220 lb. weight class,

The Broncos next compete in the prestigous Brusly/Brother Martin Bayou Duals at the Raising Canes River Center in Downtown Baton Rouge on Thursday, December 29 and Friday, December 30.
